State board of education recommends lowering student proficiency standards – May 28 2025
“Lowering proficiency benchmarks will inflate the percentage of students meeting proficiency standards, but it does little to improve students’ performance or their actual mastery of subject matter. Rather than providing a more accurate view of student performance, it simply obscures the crisis of students struggling to meet proficiency in core subjects and likely denies students the extra help they need.”
and:
“Education officials in Illinois expect to see a marked increase this year in the percentage of students classified as proficient in reading, writing and math, along with a slight decline in proficiency rates in science.
That’s not because of any change in the way schools are teaching or how well students are learning, but rather a change in the way the state reports scores on the annual assessments students are given in those core subjects.”
They changed the rules to cover-up the failure of Public Schools to educate.
This is how government lies (a balanced budget, crime is lower, ect.) They change the goalpost to make things look better. “there are lies and statistics, and statics lie”
I won’t be surprised when the Board of Education president Williams and DEI leader Shelvin claim that Unit 5’s Equity ideology is the reason students are suddenly able to pass the new academic standards. Just wait.

Central Illinois taxpayers and citizens – test rats and cases on that roadmap (bad strategy)
