Illinois accused of handing out illegal CDLs

If your media didn’t report this, get better media.

I’m sure you’ve heard about accidents and deaths caused by illegals with licenses to drive semis. Illinois has now been listed as one of the states handing out CDLs to unqualified drivers.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy today exposed that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)’s review of Illinois’ non-domiciled commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) program found nearly 1-in-5 licenses to have been issued illegally. Illinois has 30 days to come into compliance and revoke the illegally issued licenses—or risk losing $128 million in federal highway funding.

“I need our state partners to understand that they work for the American people, not illegal immigrants who broke the law illegally entering our country and continue to break it by operating massive big rigs without the proper qualifications,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy. “Biden and Buttigieg forced Americans to share their roads with unqualified and unvetted foreign drivers, but the Trump Administration is putting the needs of American families first where they belong.”

According to statements from the U.S. Department of Transportation (under Secretary Sean P. Duffy) in early 2026, at least 17 fatal crashes involving non-domiciled CDL drivers in 2025 alone resulted in at least 30 deaths. These figures were cited in announcements finalizing rules to bar unqualified foreign/non-domiciled drivers from obtaining CDLs, following concerns over improper licensing, lack of English proficiency, unverified driving histories, and related safety risks. Injuries were also reported in many of these incidents (e.g., one crash mentioned 20 injuries alongside 3 deaths), but no aggregate injury count was provided in public reports.

Specific examples from federal announcements and news coverage in 2025–2026 include:

  • August 2025 (Florida Turnpike): Illegal U-turn by an undocumented driver caused a crash killing 3 people.
  • October 2025 (California, I-10): Undocumented driver (allegedly DUI) caused multi-vehicle crash killing 3 people, injuring others.
  • December 2025 (Tennessee): Non-English-speaking undocumented driver caused pileup killing 1, injuring 2.
  • February 2026 (Indiana): Undocumented driver swerved into oncoming traffic, killing 4 people (injuries to others in the van).
  • Other incidents referenced in DOT/FMCSA contexts: Crashes killing additional individuals (e.g., one with 3 fatalities in a tunnel, one train collision killing 1 crew member).

These cases often involved drivers who obtained CDLs in “sanctuary” or permissive states despite federal requirements (e.g., English proficiency, proper documentation). ICE operations in 2025 arrested hundreds of undocumented commercial drivers (e.g., over 100 in California, 91+ in Oklahoma checkpoints), citing risks after these crashes.

  1. This is disgusting. I pray each lawmaker and other persons allowing or supporting illegals getting any driver’s license will fully FEEL the weight and PAIN of each death or injury caused by these illegal drivers. This is not surprising considering the scum we get as “lawmakers” in Illinois… because the MAJORITY does not vote or care what they vote for. It is sickening…

  2. Yet if you got a couple of DUI’s 20 years ago, have been a good boy, haven’t driven since, can read English and have learned your lesson, get ready to spend $1000’s, go to drivers school, blow into a device to start your car, and still maybe, maybe get denied. I cannot explain even by using every cuss word ever invented in ALL languages how crooked and hypocritical this government has become.
