Lexington Fail – Massive Fail

By: Diane Benjamin

I was contacted this morning by a reader who couldn’t find Lexington financial data and TIF reports on the Comptroller’s website.

Local data is difficult to find, it’s even harder when this message appears:

No reports for THREE years?

There is a phone number right on the Comptroller’s website: 800-877-8078.

Turns out that number is Springfield, local data is handled through the Chicago office. I asked if she had that phone number, she gave me 855-881-2301.

That number concerns state debt collections, so that guy gave me another number after some searching: 312-814-2451.

It was fun listening to messages in Spanish too. I wonder why this office discriminates against every other language?

That number actually worked. I was able to connect directly to a lady in the local data division. She confirmed Lexington hadn’t submitted the REQUIRED reports.

Evidently the Comptroller’s office isn’t serious about long past due reports. She claims they are working with them.

Evidently Lexington officials don’t think audited financial statements and TIF reports should be available to the people paying the bills. Why would your government not want you to know?

Anyone smell something putried?

It looks like the July meeting was canceled. Citizens need to show up in August are contact your elected officials. They are all on the website.

Any idea what the State would do to you if you failed to file tax returns?

  1. Oh the secrets these local and county and school districts and partners must his to build such a terrible process and system and communication/question/request for real Information and contracts. Then to close requestors FOIA requests or email questions as the sinr read and can’t interpret questions in writing or say it’s too much work to get

The system. Is broken at the McLean County, Unit 5, Local rural communities and probably other districts and towns. Calling every platform training and security or managed service makes this all acceptable.

This is exactly why iur taxes should not be paying for communication and data and FOIA process or pointed questions.

Many examples – while creating a lot of time consumption and headaches and disrespect/disguard to citizens, students and taxpayers.

Making phone calls is an easy ticket close with zero accountability other than opening the door to defacing those who ask pointed questions IN WRITING.

The new digital community and managed service gig is the new nightnare norm.

The websites and links are bad tooband rhe admin issues are very clear.

Yours is just one example of the county issues. $$$.

This is exactly why our taxes should not be paying for communication and data and FOIA process for pointed questions. A person must handle and actually read and not jus send scripted responses or close a message/ticket. Universal problem. Efficiently for public servants and taxpayers is a lie.

      1. All I can think of when I read this is “All the Queen’s Horses”. It could happen anywhere and likely does.
