Breaking News! Solar Project Dead

Remember the Solar project proposed for eastern McLean County on prime farmland? https://www.wglt.org/local-news/2025-06-25/deriva-energy-proposes-300-megawatt-solar-farm-in-eastern-mclean-county

It’s dead. Yes, I heard it from a reliable source.

  1. Great to hear, I’m all for solar, but install
In areas that make more sense, in stead of utilizing fertile soil we have been blessed with.

    1. It seems that enough farmers and rural landowners in McLean County and elsewhere had no problem “utilizing fertile soil” in order to make a buck when the wind farm companies came calling. That argument sailed long ago. Like them or hate them, you can’t blame a company making a business proposal that’s easy enough to walk away from or accept when it’s put on the table. The hypocrisy of people in BN and McLean County always cracked me up and does to this day. Maybe it’s your neighbors who are the real enemy?

  2. Amen. Protect our farmland. You want solar? Build it on your house. Government want solar? Build in on all public buildings.
What about on parking decks? ISU New engineering building is adding covered parking with solar on them. Brilliant. Take unused air space above parking lots, parking garages, and build solar there. Save our farmland for naturally solar feeding our food supply.

  3. Doge Illinois, I agree. Look at all the now unused parking lots from unused office buildings as locations for solar panels. As well as on the top of countless buildings in Chicago, especially ones that are no longer occupied.
