If You Write a Letter to the Editor, You Need To Know:

By: Diane Benjamin

I don’t know anyone who still reads the Pantagraph. I don’t use them in stories anymore because I’m not buying a subscription and a lot of people here don’t either. That means nobody would be able to read any articles I link to.

I was contacted this week by two people who submitted Letters to the Editor.

You need to keep a copy of whatever you submit. Why? Because both had their letter changed before being printed!

One just had some words changed that didn’t have any affect on the letter.

The other had words ADDED to the letter that did affect the content. Those words weren’t authored by the writer and never should have been added to reflect what the Pantagraph staff wanted the letter to say.

The writer submitted it online and doesn’t have a copy of the original or I’d print it. Also know that just because you submit one it doesn’t mean it will ever get printed. Funny how that happens. 🤔
