The official 2014 Primary elections results aren’t yet available, but the vote totals that are available show a clear difference between the Primary for Governor in 2010 and yesterday’s election. Here are the official results from 2010:
Leaving the Green party candidate out, a total of 1,683.211 votes were cast.
46% of the voters choose a Republicans ballot, Democrats 54% .
So how does that compare with yesterday?
These numbers are NOT official, but they are close to enough to show what happened.
Total votes cast for Governor: 1,249,874
Democrat votes cast: 436,953 35%
Republican votes cast: 812,921 65%
Where did all the Republicans come from? Only 46% of voters took a Republican ballot in 2010, but suddenly 4 years later 65% did?
The typically left-leaning unions spent more than $6 million on the GOP primary, both in anti-Rauner and pro-Dillard ads.
We have heard for months the public sector unions were told to vote in the Republican primary for Dillard to stop Rauner. The percentages show they did. They spent a lot of money to defeat Rauner because they are afraid of his stance on pension reform and influence on government.
The unions didn’t win. The votes for Rauner were a vote for change and a vote against the establishment GOP. The people voted for change, and they are getting it. Illinois is in a death spiral, the establishment in both parties are doing nothing to prevent our demise.
Rauner may be able to change it, maybe not. The vote shows the people want someone, anyone, to keep us from becoming Detroit. Hopefully, it isn’t too late.
