Continuing “Right Fit” While Ignoring Needs

By:  Diane Benjamin

Local governments in both Bloomington and Normal forgot a long time ago it isn’t their job to entertain you.  Raising taxes to pay for their folly costs everybody.  Want to know why Bloomington-Normal is becoming un-affordable?  Government tyranny!  They know better than you how to spend your money.  Worse, capitalism is murdered every time a government program usurps the ability of the private sector to complete.

Monday night Bloomington will prove again they are clueless.  Having a “Cultural District Commission”, mostly for the BCPA, wasn’t good enough.  First they want a name change to Cultural Commission.  The mayor gets to appoint eleven members, all of whom will think just like him.  They will meet at least once a month.  Meetings mean they must have a purpose in meeting.  Whatever purpose they have will more than likely cost you money.  They will report findings to the Council, most of whom will gush in delight at their proposals.

Next the “Cultural” area has to be increased.  Of course the library is included, the purpose of expansion isn’t to house more books – its entertainment.  The Creativity Center is included too, it isn’t ADA compliant, but taxes will take care of that problem.  A few private businesses are thrown into the area.  Maybe the City will tell them what “Right Fit” events they can hold!

Here’s the proposed map:

The City Councils of both cities will never concentrate on essential services, those are way too boring.

Government is supposed to be boring.  Money taken from taxpayers is theft, both cities think they get to decide how much you get to keep – no limits to what they can take!  While pretending to create utopia they have failed taxpayers.  Debt is excessive, public safety pensions aren’t funded, roads are crap, and all the tax increases are forcing people out of Illinois.  Look at the Coliseum for all the proof of incompetence needed.

Both mayors are currently attending the US Conference of Mayors, or that’s what you paid them to attend.  Instead they took Saturday off to walk in Boston’s Gay Pride Parade.  I wonder how WGLT got the pic?

Attending wasn’t on the agenda: http://www.usmayors.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Boston-2018-Agenda-Web-060518b.pdf

The trip was the first slap in the face to taxpayers, not attending what you paid for is slap number two.

Staying in abusive relationships must mean citizens like being abused.

  1. Just like the fact the we all know the Hales was pretending to be a city manager… these to boys are pretending to be Mayors. They would not last more than 6 months (like Hale in Joliet) in a city that had a real mainstream media and smart people watching them. They are on a government paid vacation… elites are entitled to go and do whatever they want… so we get to pay them to march in a gay pride parade? As our area sinks into economic decline they march in a gay parade in Boston? Shameful behavior – but the media here will celebrate it!

    1. Well, Renner is still wearing those gay glasses so,,,yeah he might be. Don’t really care if he is but he doesn’t need to be jet setting on my tax dollars.

      1. Hey now those glasses are held together with a very strong magnet and Tari (Terry) loves to take them off and on in council meetings. I have nothing against gay people but yes those glasses are pretty gay… I can tell you this… the people I grew up with and worked with would be calling me and texted me, if I had my picture taken with a rainbow banner at a gay pride march. I would be hard pressed to live that one down. So I wonder if these boys get pedicures and the toenails done?

  2. I don’t care that they are gay. What they may do in bed with each other is their business. But I do care that they are too stupid to understand that diverting themselves from tax-payers business to go support their personal likes could be offensive. Typical elected officials who just don’t give a damn…

  3. Cultural Commission—artistic expression—brought to you by Ms. Stiller. Unsuccessful with DBA. Failure to produce attractive downtown signage after two years of discussions with the local artists. The Comprehension Plan which the Council references states the City has failed to adequately advertise the cultural amenities in a localized format on the City website or with the CVB. Why expand when you can’t keep up with what already exists? Oh, the Director of the DDD is in charge.

    1. When Stiller fails again, which she will, I can’t imagine how much of a raise she’ll get. Judging by the size of the DBA failure, Tari will have to throw in a new office and additional staffing. Folks, “Downtown” is not a strategy nor the answer to future economic prosperity, it’s a neighborhood…one in dramatic decline I might add, despite tens of millions in taxpayer support. Tari wants a bailout for his pals, including Millionaire Mike Manna, David Bentley, the Tiltons, and the Huffs. These speculators must have supported the bank bailouts and auto bailouts, right?

  4. The agenda of the Conference of Mayors is on display. The Mayors should remain neutral and dignified. Nope!

  5. nice couple. they both look like their grabbing a handful…
I’ve looked at that map a half dozen times now and I can’t find the BCPA anywhere on it. What a bunch of idiots.

  6. This is what you get when the majority do not vote or vote without knowledge of the issues. Just voting for name recognition or not voting at all. We all get screwed in the process.

  7. You do very solid fiscal investigations and raise issues quite well, but the pictures that you posted today are priceless. You showed insight in choosing garbage pick-up, police, and mayor. Better than the big old Life Magazine. Yes, pictures are worth a thousand words. Perhaps you should consider a second career in photo journalism.
As to a caption for the wonderful photo of Terry(sic) and Gregg(sic), Mad Magazine’s
    “What me worry”.

  8. Rome is burning and these two jackasses are going on a taxpayer-funded vacation. For shame.
