The fire was not in the plant, it was in a lot. If you haven’t seen the video or reports – go to this link:
https://insideevs.com/news/731281/rivian-factory-fire-r1s-r1t/amp
The fire involved many more than “several” vehicles. It looks to me like barriers were put around vehicles that were parked close together. That kept the fire from spreading. Since EV fires are difficult to extinguish, were they just allowed to burn?

Questions we won’t get answered:
- How many toxic chemicals were released in the air from the fire?
- Where will burned vehicles be disposed of?
- Are they still toxic?
- Did the IL EPA show up to monitor ground and air contamination?

Come on man! They have to collect insurance money. How else will they make up their huge loss on electric vehicles. I am from Chicago. That’s how they do it.
Why do most left-wing ideas end up in flames? This reminds me of a “mostly peaceful” protest. Two more questions: will JB fly in on his electric helicopter with a taxpayer funded check to cover all the damage and provide hush money to the press covering the event? Also, will State Farm still offer Rivian free parking at Corporate South?
I heard Rivian paid them for parking
I bet State Farm will up their parkin fee once they re-evaluate the risk…
Taxpayers in Normal are getting billed for frequent calls to Rivals. They need their own fire department
Most of those cars are gone from SF parking. Unless they filled it up again!
What about all the water run off into the storm sewer
The picture doesn’t show massive amounts of water anywhere. Did they really use any or just let it burn since water is mostly useless?
I hear they use foam, not environmentally friendly.
And don’t forget, your neighbor might have one of these parked in his garage …. next to your home.
Make sure you add the optional fire extinguisher when you order your new Rivian.
I just telling a friend who lives over by State Farm (where they were parking their flame-mobiles) that I was glad they have moved their vehicles because of the fire and potential environmental disaster to the suburban neighborhoods where she lives.
Yes the smoke is toxic. Any water used to polluted and needs to captured and treated. All it takes is one short in one of the hundreds of cells that make up the battery pack to start a fire that produces it’s own combustion materials…. thus making it almost impossible to put out.
And now comes the PR BS from Clark Kent….. Nothing to see here citizens of Bloomington-Normal. All is good and thank you for continuing to be fools that I can tell anything…. and you will believe me.
When will this insanity end! After years of Rivian ruining our local economy, job market, housing market, schools and streets…Now they are also solely responsible for polluting our air and water! Much better if Mits would have just bulldozed that plant after it closed.
It’s okay Ron, like you, Chris and J.B., I still believe that Rivian is BN’s saving grace. Saturday nights incident is just a small blip on the economic radar screen, a total misnomer to high quality automotive product currently being produced by highly experienced and highly trained automotive manufacturing experts in the manufacturing epicenter of Normal, Illinois. The moderately priced and dependable transportation option continues to be a magnet for all serious vehicle purchasers. The national attention this incident is receiving is further proof to the dependability and safety of this remarkable and highly sought after product. Auto enthusiasts around the country and the world continue to make Rivian a go to stock option for their investment portfolios. Even 12-year-olds in the Congo urged in a press release today to continue to buy Rivian.
😂😂😂
MPEABODY ….. This is almost standup comedy material!! Thanks for the laugh.😂😂😂
Hey Pea…I knew you would be lurking out there in Indy and missed hearing your insightful comedic opinions. Glad I got under your skin.
You never get under my skin. But I’m glad I get under yours. Go Rivian!!!!!
It is time for this “fad” of attached garages to end anyway. Yes our new house has a detached garage located in Carlock. Who wants to come home to a melted Rivian and a pile of ashes that used to be our house? Saving the planet makes us feel so…. good… even if it does turn a small town into Chernobyl 2.1.
Just curious as to how much money this fire cost taxpayers. The firefighters have to be paid and if they called out for mutual aid those firefighters had to be paid. Cleanup crews after fire had to be paid. The fuel the fire engines had to be replaced. The water and foam cost the taxpayers. The money put out to fight the fire has to be huge cost to taxpayers. Oops I forgot about the IL EPA investigators have to be paid by taxpayers if they show up. I hear fire is under investigation. They have to be paid. The list goes on. Don’t expect Rivian to pay this bill it will be the taxpayers.
Can you imagine what would happen to one of us peeons, if we set a pile of tires on fire and created a huge toxic smoke cloud billowing into B/N like this? It’s insane how these corpra-green-tards are allowed to create a huge environmental disaster and not be held accountable. And what will it take for the lib-green-tards to stop buying these ticking time bombs? The entire climate change narrative is one BIG lie, so what’s the point of buying an EV in the first place?
