The following idea was sent to me by a resident of Normal.
Who knows long before the police where huge partying crowds are expected? ISU students.
Instead of passing more laws those 1,000 people last weekend would have ignored, why not reward students for tips?
If the police had arrived earlier the looters would not have helped themselves to alcohol and tobacco products at multiple locations.
Police could monitor social media on their own. It’s much easier to get tips from students who always need money and always scroll social media. It’s also much cheaper than paying staff. Tipster rewards don’t have to be high, just worth it to a broke student.
Since Normal’s first impulse is passing more laws, don’t expect this common sense idea to materialize.
Social media has reported previous pop-up student crowds at various parks. They are noisy and often stay late. They quickly make a Normal parks unusable for permanent citizens since large unorganized crowds are intimidating. Normal has been slow to disperse and prevent these large gatherings. ISU students know where these parties will be. Money talks. Use it wisely for a change.
This is a screen shot from a TikTok video of last weekend. This at one of the looted locations. I captured this blurry on purpose.

I guarantee the Chinese have a copy of that TikTok video. Why don’t the Normal Police ask them for a 1080p copy so they can identify the people? (sarcasm)
@STAN – I agree with you!
But they don’t want to identify anyone because Illinois is embracing No Consequences….
Which is why Mayor Koos has told the police chief to stand-down & the police are told to allow all of the bad behaviors. And our Governor JB Pritzker has pushed for no cash bail – this will also allow all of the bad behaviors to go on without consequences.
It just goes on and on – the signs are all there for us law-abiding citizens to see the direction they are taking our state and town.
Mayor Koos wants to cash in on legalized cannabis with all the dispensaries he’s welcomed to Normal. Now he has to live with the consequences of promoting criminal behavior.
Yeah- $$$ and marketing Illinois for all the northern and Silicone Valley and college grads are all they care about and taking income and taxes like Property Taxes and fees.
(Centralized Assessment should be Illegal)
Cant go anyplace in BN or Champaign or Peoria without getting a big wiff of skunk week from care and places.
