Unit 5’s Youth Build Redacts Data

By: Diane Benjamin

If you read the 2023 Youth Build Annual Report this Charter School is fantastic: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/55bb8525e4b0a459046e6739/t/65b9afabb435b867dbf069cd/1706667953249/2023+Annual+Report.pdf

Now see the Illinois School Report Card for YBMC: https://irc.isbe.net/School.aspx?source=profile&Schoolid=17064005026001C

Chronic Absenteeism is 87%.

The Academic Progress is redacted for Proficiency in English Language Arts, Math, and Science.

Science Assessment shows 0% proficient.

Graduation rate is redacted. Go back to the 2023 annual report. It has a picture of kids in caps and gowns.

Under Academic Progress click on Proficiency. Redacted!

Under Career and Technical Education: Redacted!

Under School Environment Class size is 8. That contradicts the annual report that shows a room full of kids at tables.

Go to the Students tab. It shows 24 students, 82% attendance, 87% Chronic Absenteeism, and 97% Truancy Rate.

Do those percents make sense?

The only reason to redact information is because it looks bad.

Charter Schools are usually independent of public schools. It looks like this one should be.

The only reason I looked into this is because Wirepoints put this chart on Instagram:

  1. Holy Cow. Douglass School in Chigago is spending $56,000 per student. I’ll bet that’s where all the rich Democrats send their kids

  2. There are 19 students enrolled in the school, dummy. Not hard to understand how they hit high percentages like that with such low enrollment.
