Why did Lizzy refund a contribution?

By: Diane Benjamin

Continuation of this story: https://blnnews.com/2024/11/29/alleged-illegal-activity-at-mclean-county/

Lizzy is Elizabeth Johnston. She plans to be the new County Board chair since the Democrats are now the majority. (I told you this is going to be fun!)

The text messages below are between Trevor Sierra and Lizzy Johnson. Trevor is requesting a refund for the contribution he made – he even calls it solicited illegally. Note Lizzy doesn’t have a retort to that allegation. She arranges the refund. It looks to me like she knew she acted illegally. See the original story. What does Judge and former State’s Attorney Don Knapp know?

Of course democrats knew Mike Madigan was corrupt for decades but didn’t challenge his leadership. I doubt the local democrats are any different.

How are Lizzy and the democrats supposed to work with Michelle Anderson for the next 4 years when they actively worked to abolish her office? They should have run a better candidate than the last time. Rob “gas taxes don’t raise the price of gas” and “I want to be a super alderman” Fazzini never had a chance of beating Michelle 4 years ago.

How can Cassy Taylor continue as County Administrator without explaining her role? Ditto the for State’s Attorney Erika Reynolds. Does everyone hate Michelle Anderson or does Lizzy have some magical powers?

I’m pretty sure they were surprised voters didn’t buy eliminating an elected official because local elites didn’t like the person holding the job. If County democrats really want to save money, eliminate the Bloomington Election Commission because that is in the County budget. BEC is completely unnecessary and unaccountable to anyone. Put that on the April 1st ballot!

  1. Oops…

I’d verify if that check is in fact out of the same account. Doubtful.

The “PAC” being used for the “Vote Yes” referendum, is a very interesting topic and one I’m currently working on.

This is better than Netflix’s new series, “The Diplomat” and “Jack Ryan”. Political Drama is so much fun.

  2. notice how quickly the elite can protect themselves vs how slowly they fight for literally anything the working class needs.

  3. These actions prove the point that eliminating an elected county auditor is not the answer to eliminating waste, fraud and abuse in McLean County. I for one did not join the bandwagon of my conservative friends who viewed this only as a cost cutting measure. An auditor provides some element of accountability to these types of shenanigans and those who want the position removed ought to be suspect. This story proves why. Who can possibly trust these people with tax payer money?

Those who participated in this illegal activity on county premises are without excuse. What is the education and training process on these matters for elected officials and county employees? Either that information didn’t sink in or it was skipped all together.

Whatever problems people have with Michelle Anderson need to be resolved in an open and honest election for county auditor and not in another county wide referendum to eliminate her position. If this doesn’t wake people up, I don’t know what will. The residents of McLean county need this position to remain in place before these people have free reign to do whatever they please.

  4. I’d really be interested in the filings this quarter to see who gave to this project/PAC, how much, and what was purchased.

    Hmm…

  5. Feeling so *vindicated* in not trusting a shred of the anti-auditor messages this past election cycle. There was NOTHING substantive put forth by any of the proponents that made a believable case for eliminating that elected office. And now we see this…
