40 days of early voting is a waste of money

By: Diane Benjamin

The below is from the State Board of Elections website: https://www.elections.il.gov/ElectionOperations/DownloadVoteTotals.aspx

Below are the Illinois vote totals from Presidential Elections in 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024. Three of the four years show 70% of registered voters voted – 2012 and 2016 were before 40 days of early voting. 2020 shows the same results as the rest of the country: lots more people voted and then disappeared in 2024. (Totally legit I’m sure)

Obviously 40 days of early voting does nothing to get more people to vote. Staffing voting locations to achieve questionable results is a waste of valuable resources. That’s your tax dollars being wasted.

Will Illinois Democrats see this waste? Doubtful.

The April 1st, 2025 local elections will be an even bigger waste since a much smaller percentage of registered votes will bother to vote.
