MUCH higher electric bills follow Bloomington raising water rates May 1st by another THIRD for what they deemed “generational” projects.
Many items are going to cost more just in Sales Tax because voters approved taxing themselves.
Rents are high because of shortages, nobody ever mentions if illegals are why shortages exist.
AI needs massive amounts of electricity. Turbines and solar panels don’t produce enough to make a dent. The same company mentioned in the WGLT story, Constellation Energy, owns the closed nuclear power plant Three Mile Island. Microsoft wants to buy 100% of the electricity when the plant restarts. AI needs all of it.
Illinois hasn’t allowed cheap electricity because of the FAKE climate crisis. Pritzker wants to be an AI leader without enough power to lead.
Nuclear could have provided cheap electricity. Technology has evolved making it safe without producing hazardous waste. Remember when Illinois wanted to close nuclear plants? Now they are changing their minds.
The last line in the story speaks volumes:
Corn Belt Energy customers are unaffected by the change.
A 40% increase in electricity bills will raise rents if the landlord pays it. If they expect the tenants to pay this increase it will decimate those living paycheck to paycheck. It’s a tragedy the Climate Change scam caused.
How much of the rate increase is to make people use less?
Corn Belt customers unaffected….that’s funny! I think I know why. Corn Belt has been high for years. I had a business in Normal that used a LOT more electricity than our single family home under Corn Belt but the bills were almost the same!!!!!
I’ve never understood this climate hysteria or the arrogance of those that think we can change it. I mean really….BLONO was under ice a MILE thick a few thousand years ago!! It’s manufactured insanity.
Trump has criticized wind and solar stating they aren’t viable without taxpayer subsidies. Is he doing anything to defund wind and solar in Illinois???
The municipality is not the electricity provider, unlike providing water. The city taxes based on a percentage, which will increase the total local cost.
Same old story. Anytime there is a middle man, you’re going to pay more. If not today, then tomorrow.
