This story epitomizes why people flee Illinois and ignore local media: https://www.wglt.org/illinois/2025-07-07/housing-funding-cut-in-illinois-budget-as-homelessness-increases
Title: Housing funding cut in Illinois budget as homelessness increases
Illinois just passed the biggest budget ever – $55.1 billion.
Excerpt:
“Last year homelessness increased 116% in the state of Illinois,” Doug Kenshol, co-founder of the Illinois Shelter Alliance, told Capitol News Illinois. “To be in the midst of this crisis and then have the state cut funding was beyond disappointing.”
The elephant in the room is totally ignored!
Where are all the illegal aliens living? The huge increase in demand for housing did what to housing availability? The WGLT story has ZERO about the increased demand creating shortages. The local public schools reported last year over 1500 students in “english as a second language”. This influx had no effect on local housing?
Basic economics states when demand increases the price goes up. Importing millions of people via open borders created a housing shortage nationwide and raised the cost for citizens.
Citizens who can’t afford rent or a house aren’t being told the truth. Government created the problem, obviously government can’t solve it as evidenced by this WGLT story. Illinois ran out of other people’s money even with $700 million in new taxes.
Politicians should have to pass a basic economics course. Since they won’t be required to do that, voters need to use their brains for a change before voting.
.

Basic Economics is sorely lacking from any conversations about the problems plaguing the country right now. Another example… Printing trillions of dollars to increase the money supply without increasing the amount of goods and services produced results in??? INFLATION! Anyone observe inflation the last few years? Anyone understand it’s not just greed that’s blowing up the cost of everything? Is Economics even part of the required curriculum anymore?
Socialists even only
If there is any positive it might be that the homeless don’t have to pay the outrageous house taxes that many of us are forced to pay! I say that tongue in cheek but how many of us seniors face being homeless because we won’t be able to pay our our real estate taxes. Just saying!!!
