  1. Unit 5’s teaching environment is based on a neo-Marxist view of the world and the ISBE’s teaching standards.

“Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.”
    Vladimir Lenin

“The more radical the person is, the more fully he or she enters into reality so that, knowing it better, he or she can transform it.”
Paulo Freire – Pedagogy of the Oppressed

“e). Leveraging Student Advocacy – Culturally responsive teachers and leaders will support and create opportunities for student advocacy and representation in the content and classroom. The culturally responsive teacher will:
    5) Create a risk-taking space that promotes student advocacy.
6). Research and offer student advocacy content with real world implications.”
Section 24.5 – The Illinois Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards.

  2. This letter is about as meaningful as a harshly worded UN letter.

Until and unless the school board makeup changes, nothing will change in classroom.

I thank God everyday my kids are in D87. Far from perfect but not a hellhole like Unit 5.

  3. If you actually spoke to students or did any research you would understand the shirt was part of a lesson in class about questioning all authority including people we elect, teachers or anyone “above us.”

  4. He wears his maga hat next week
    Right??????????
I have said it before numerous times no and I mean no dress depicting anything political or religious should be allowed in our schools. For obvious reasons.
That should be left for the home environment.
Although a little bit of religion wouldn’t hurt!

    1. I agree. No dress or jewelry that shows political leanings, including cross necklaces. Keep religion and politics out of our schools and away from my kids.

        1. Respectfully, Muslims are already told what we can and cannot wear more than anyone else. For many of us, what we wear, like a hijab, is not a political statement. It is part of our faith. Asking us to hide that is not keeping schools neutral, it is excluding students and teachers because of their religion. Public schools should be places where everyone’s beliefs are respected, not erased.

It is utterly disappointing and hurtful to hear from another constituent (like I am) in this town to be following a racist and evil path. Do you think people of this ideology should be removed or silenced from this country, Diane? If you are going to delete my comment, then have the courage to at least email me and voice your concerns and thoughts. Email: cihscdcim09@gmail.com

            1. Right, I don’t care / mind if someone wears a Christian cross, it’s their beliefs and their right to do so.

  5. This is a free country so if one doesn’t want to follow the rules, if a hijab means covering your entire head and face then you are free to start attending a private school that allows hijab.
Racism has nothing to do with this following the rules is what a person has to do when attending a public school.
