Arrests with no prosecution?

By: Diane Benjamin

The Normal Police recently posted these arrests:

Are these three actually being prosecuted? The driver was impaired but not charged with DUI?

Try searching for criminal records: Maylon Tate https://publicaccess.mcleancountyil.gov/PubAC_SearchCriminal.aspx

That name brings up this guy:

I’ve seen searches linked to somebody using an alias but never the wrong guy!

Moon’s record shows nothing for December 6 or a few days after. He does have an open case from November, he’s also still in jail. Moon does have a long history of crimes and NOT paying fines. He owes more than $15,000 going back to 2012. Collection Agencies haven’t been able to collect either. His crimes range from theft, aggregated battery, harassing witnesses, cannabis production with intent to deliver, violating bond, driving an uninsured vehicle more than once, driving without a license, impersonating, and numerous other traffic offenses. Anyway, he isn’t the right guy.

The other two have no open cases on the County records. Maybe the website isn’t updated yet, maybe they weren’t prosecuted. Neither are listed on the 14 day court docket either.

I suggest getting the McLean County Sheriff’s app if you want to track inmates.

Maylon Tate is in jail, the other two aren’t. He’s the passenger who ran from the vehicle and was quickly found with a loaded stolen gun. The female had an illegal gun, I think it was a stun gun, but isn’t in jail.

Maybe this video from the McLean County Justice Committee meeting on 12/3 will help you understand, just hit Play. I wonder how the local police feel when they make an arrest and the person isn’t prosecuted? Of course, I’m assuming police arrests are for cause.

The Speaker is the State’s Attorney, Erika Reynolds. Remember being told crime is down? “Intakes” into the McLean County jail surpassed last year’s numbers by early November. Since currently only 1 overwhelmed person is in charge of processing all these people, they are adding another person to assist. Reynolds claims the number is over 4000 for the year.

Reynolds also states not everyone arrested is prosecuted. Go back to the 3 arrested in Normal. Latalya Zolicoffer had an illegal gun and other charges. She isn’t in jail and her name does not appear in the County records. Hopefully the records are just behind? Failure to prosecute isn’t a deterrence.

  1. I don’t know anything about the status of the individuals profiled here but it does raise a question in my mind.
I get the Pantagraph on line not that I am a fan of this publication but I like to get the local news.
Can someone explain to me why the majority and I do mean the majority of those pictures profiled in the paper for arrest or conviction of drug sales, gun possession, assault and battery, and theft are people of color. And the ages are from teenagers meaning those 18 all the way up to older adults. It’s in the paper every day.
What do the leaders in the black community have to say this has to be an embarrassment. And would this kind of activity going on make people fearful of those people of color? Just asking!!

      1. It’s really remarkable how race relations have deteriorated since the ’08 election. It’s incredible how the actions of one man and one woman (?) could set into motion the end of America as we knew it. I hope there’s a very special place in hell for them. They tore us apart, irreparably.

  2. You are so right, that is why I was hesitant to make a comment about this because there would be those that insist that these illegal activities are a result of “systemic racism” which I absolutely disagree with.
And be assured that I am not and have never been a racist either through thought or action.
Systemic racism could be described as something like when the police chief in Bloomington is accused of telling his officers to either quit arresting so many people of color or focus more on the white community.

  3. Most likely they are behind entering in charges. The charges will show eventually. This is on the clerk’s office I would think.
