The Democrats on our McLean County Board have gone too far. I can handle bullies, but not when they unjustly try to scare and bully members of our staff by sending the IL State Police into our office to question one of our most honest and honorable staff members about his overtime; all of which had previously been approved, documented and never questioned.
Staff was in tears.
National political hate is here in McLean County. It’s up to us to stand up to it and stop it on all sides.
I have always had these documented emails available, but no one has asked for them except one media outlet.
I will have these handouts of emails from our office to the McLean County Board Finance and Executive Chairs, Val Laymon and Elizabeth Johnston, reaching out to meet to review our budget. Several emails. No responses other than Chair Laymon indicating I spoke in ALL CAPS (that was my header by the way, not the entire email), and Chair Johnston not agreeing to a May meeting vs. an April meeting so we could have more time to get and review detailed questions from the Board. Only two Board members responded with detailed comments or questions, which I answered with emails.
One Democratic County Board member said I wanted “private meetings” so the public wouldn’t be informed. That’s a lie, proven in the emails.
REMINDER: The County Board approved the Amended Budget as has been done in the last 16 years I have been in office. If the County Board had further budget questions, why did they approve the Amended Budget, a process done every year by every department head.
I’m sorry it has come to this McLean County. But I must stand up not only for our office, but for myself. The buck stops with me; always has.

Mehhh….as someone who is pretty politically agnostic, this seems like a nothingburger from Kathy Michael. You’ve got Trump having ordered meritless charges against James Comey for seashsells and Trump trying to demand Kimmel be taken off the air because he can’t handle jokes about how much older he is than his wife. So he’s having his FCC commissioner bully Disney/ABC. Are Democrats bullying Kathy? Yep- but it’s within the new political norms established by Trump. You can’t support that type of behavior when it’s wielded against people you oppose and then be snowflakes when it’s directed to your allies. Toughen up.
Her last opponent called her a racist and promised to fire the staff and bring in her own people. Democrats do whatever it takes to win
Mehhhh….Trump lobs questionable insults at his opponents all the time, with Republicans telling Democrats to toughen up and stop complaining about “mean” language. Sounds like you guys need to do the same. Once again- I dont really have a horse in this fight. I do think Democrats are being jerks just to be jerks. But that’s the new norm set by Trump. We can disagree on political issues all day, every day, but there really is no debating that Trump has moved us to a point of greater bareknuckle politics where power is wielded as a cudgel against your opponents. From the FCC threatening media outlets because Kimmel hurt Trump’s feelings, to ordering the justice department to charge people for seashells, to him insisting on complete fealty from federal workers, to him consistently insulting his opponents with violent and profane language.
Those are the new norms. It’s what y’all voted for when you voted for Trump. So suck it up- you can fight back to regain power or cry about how mean you’re being treated. Your choice!
FCC is because Kimmel made comments about his wife
FCC is because Kimmel made fun of the age difference between the president and his wife. Using the FCC to attack Kimmel and arguably violate the first amendment to protect the president and his wife’s feelings are a-ok. But the County Board using its power against the clerk- while, that’s just the end of the world!

She’s 400 million over budget when asked to explain her budget Micheals cries foul. Bullies? Geez, if being asked to explain your budget, not on a blog favorable to Micheal’s side of the story, then she should resign.

Your old standy- Trump Derangement Syndrome. We’ll actually have a chance to to test that in November. If opposition to Trump is limited to people you perceive as “crazy” and small in number, you guys should be on track to do really well in the midterms.
If, however, people are broadly paissed off at him for starting an unnecessary war, causing a growing cost of living crisis, not releasing all the Epstein Files, and repugnant behavior, then Republicans will get clobbered in the midterms. That would mean the derangement lies with you guys and your inability to look at his actions and their affect on our country critically.

I’m there. This bullying through the use of law enforcement and the courts, using elected positions of authority for personal gains, and maligning innocent citizens has reached a limit. Because when those of us on the opposing side stand up against their slander, libel, and abuses, it’s the same old tactic from the commie left, playing victim, name calling, and repeat.
Let’s not forget last spring and summers table flipping ISU employee that threatened me and all the Republican Board members with death, before being arrested. TDS is real and they all suffer from it to some degree. We all watched it on television as another deranged person with severe TDS was tackled by secret service at the WHCD. Imagine what the Democrats on the County Board say behind closed doors! I bet it’s not rated for cinema.
It’s BN/McLean County. Anyone paying attention ten or more years ago knew this was the plan of the Chicago political machine to totally take over downstate Illinois. It was easy pickings because people are too busy to vote in local elections or to put up a fight because getting drunk, high or finding a new girlfriend or boyfriend after a divorce at the local bars is higher up on their priority list. Leaving all the garbage in the rearview mirror by taking matters into their own hands is harder for most still there. It’s easier to stay because familiarity with the same ole garbage is better than striking off to a new place that may not be as comfortable to start with and too scary and uncertain than not having all my relatives living in the same neighborhood. From what I understand, the local insurance giant just offered more early retirements and most local businesses and manufacturers continue to struggle. Ruling politically in a community and county with its best days behind it isn’t much of a kingdom to have dominion over nor to stick around in if you are one of their subjects. Enjoy the misery.
