| Sorensen’s 1,437-Day Debate Dodge: All Glam, No Answers on Rising Costs |
| Monmouth, IL —It has now been 176 days since Dillan Vancil became the Republican nominee for Illinois’ 17th Congressional District, and Congressman Eric Sorensen still has not agreed to a single debate. That is 1,437 days of silence from a congressman who claims to be fighting for working people while the cost of living in Illinois keeps climbing every single day. Groceries. Gas. Rent. Healthcare. Utilities. Everything is more expensive — and the man sent to Washington to do something about it has spent more time polishing his image than solving the problem. Voters are seeing the pattern clearly: election-year town halls, carefully staged appearances, and plenty of camera time. Then it’s back to Washington to co-sign the same policies coming out of Springfield and JB Pritzker’s office that are driving costs higher. He says he’s fighting these things. The record shows he’s mostly just going along with them. Dillan Vancil is done letting the performance go unchallenged. Today he released the following statements calling out the gap between the show and the substance: “Eric Sorensen’s refusal to debate isn’t leadership — it’s a classic DC bait-and-switch.” said Vancil. “He shows up for town halls when the cameras are rolling and the election is on the line, then disappears back to his Washington kingdom faster than a bad poll. The people of Illinois’ 17th District deserve a congressman who will face them, not play hide-and-seek. So Congressman, will you really answer why you won’t debate?” Vancil, a small business owner, former railroad engineer, and union legislative director, said the longer the silence stretches, the clearer the contrast becomes. “Families in this district are watching their paychecks get eaten alive by higher prices every month,” said Vancil. “Meanwhile the congressman is busy with the photo ops, the press hits, and the notoriety. He talks like he’s fighting the cost-of-living crisis. But when DC Democrats, Springfield Democrats and JB Pritzker push policies that make everything more expensive, he just co-signs it. That’s not fighting. That’s performing. And people can tell the difference.” As of today, the clock keeps ticking: 1,437 days and counting. “I’m ready any day, any place, any format,” Vancil added. “The only person who seems to need a weather report and three months’ notice just to show up is the current congressman. The people of the 17th deserve better and deserve more. It is time for change, enough with the show.” |
Something Id like to know- do either of them support Trump’s plan to give every adult citizen $5,000? That would cost 1.3 Trillion dollars (roughly 1/4 of the federal budget). Can we afford to blow that much of a hole in the federal budget given the debt that we already have? Of course not.

Theres nothing to fall for. It was literally a policy promise. It wasn’t something that he was joking about- and literally no one is taking it as a joke- including conservative outlets. If you have evidence of such, please provide that. Id hate to think that facts are immaterial to you. There are already Republican senators (Bernie Moreno) who have promised to sponsor a bill for those checks.

The “Because it probably can’t actually pass” argument doesnt fly in my book. I oppose Democratic plans to pack the court and socialist policies, even though they probably also cant pass. Should we let them off the hook with, “eh, theyre just playing to their base and trying to gin up turnout.” By your logic, we shouldnt hold their pledge for universal health care against them either because they’ve been trying to pass that since 2010 and havent even gotten close.
Bad policy is bad policy. And government handouts are government handouts. The stimulus bills of Trumps 1st term and then Bidens term are what created all this inflation in the first place. Maybe he shouldnt offer up policies that make us indistinguishable from Democrats?

They’re not getting rid of the filibuster either. They could have done it under Obama or in 2021 to do that stuff. They didnt. Neither party has the will to get rid of the filibuster.
Democrats could just as easily say the same thing about Republicans. Trump has been calling for the Senate to get rid of the filibuster his whole term. They could say a more Trump friendly congress in 2027 will get rid of it to pass his stimulus checks.
At the end of the day, I dont see why we cant just call bad policy out for being bad policy. Do you, as a fiscal conservative, agree with me that handing out 1.3 trillion dollars would be an enormously stupid policy.
But, now, everyone running for Congress is going to be put on the record over this issue and they’ll be afraid to stand against it because they dont want to piss off Trump. Its just going to make it even harder to get rid of people like Sorenson, and reinforces that Trump has us headed for a bloodbath in the November election.
Democrats aren’t democrats anymore. You haven’t noticed?
And remember, Sorensen voted AGAINST lower tax rates, higher standard deduction, tip and overtime relief, estate tax relief and senior SS tax credits for taxpayers. He also voted AGAINST CPX, bonus depreciation, QBI and R&D deductions for small business. Sorensen is not the taxpayer’s friend and should be voted out.
But the IL GOP is irrelevant. This guy being promoted above doesn’t say anything. Perhaps B/N News can provide his positions. Bailey has as much chance to be elected governor as my neighbor’s dog. My two IL GOP state representatives are better suited to distribution of participation ribbons at 4-H and County fairs. In fact, I don’t believe the IL GOP has the critical thinking skills to solve any of the major financial issues the State has, and I’m a registered Republican.
Finally, the Senate GOP should all be voted out based on their inability to legislate.
