Since Normal Township Trustees receive a packet of meeting information that the taxpayers who pay the bills never see, I have to wonder whether they have any concerns about these payments. Apparently not—they didn’t raise the issue at the meeting. I only have it because of a FOIA.
Township Supervisor Krystle Able’s boyfriend—or live-in partner?—is now receiving monthly checks from taxpayers. With two 40-hour-a-week jobs already providing income, taxpayers are left to wonder: Is this simply a legitimate township expense, or is Able using her position to financially benefit someone close to her?
If the payments are appropriate, the Township should have no problem explaining exactly what services are being provided, why the arrangement was necessary, and whether there are any potential conflicts of interest.
Keep in mind Board member Tanner Starr announced he is running for Normal Town Council next April. Obviously he isn’t running to be a watchdog for taxpayers.
