Bloomington Figured Out Columbus Day is a Federal holiday

By: Diane Benjamin

For many years Bloomington has held meetings on Columbus Day, this is from last year: https://blnnews.com/2025/10/13/bloomington-could-be-a-long-meeting/

Maybe they intentionally wanted to interfere with the McLean County Clerk forum and open house Tuesday night. Maybe the far leftists on the council didn’t want to meet on Indigenous People’s Day. Maybe somebody actually read City code.

Anyway, they will be holding a Council meeting tomorrow night instead of tonight.

Maybe somebody can explain this: (Bills and Payroll: https://www.bloomingtonil.gov/home/showpublisheddocument/33489/639269869719870000)

That is pension spiking at taxpayer expense. IMRF will be sending Bloomington a bill for additional pension contributions. Everyone knows unfunded pensions are destroying Illinois on the State level. Local generous pensions suck up money for pensions the people paying the bills will never see.

Other questionable payments:

TWO people had to go?

Who was VERY hungry?

This payment was approved by Council, supposedly to build 2 homes: https://blnnews.com/2026/07/27/bloomington-tonight-7-27-26/

Agenda: https://bloomingtonil.portal.civicclerk.com/event/4108/files/agenda/15155

  1. The fire department will get $498,425 for a system to automatically change traffic lights so they can respond faster. Next they need an ordinance that tickets drivers who can’t hear or don’t get out of the way of emergency vehicles.

2. The police department is getting an agreement with Bloomington Normal Water Reclamation District (BNWRD) for Sitting and Maintaining Drone Docking Stations and Public Safety Camera Infrastructure.

3. Remember Alderman Montney repeatedly asking for a deferred maintained list that she has never received? This probably would have made that list:

The cost is: Amount Not to Exceed $650,000
