Why is the Pantagraph Trying to Deceive You?

A reader sent me a screenshot of the front page of today’s paper.

Headline: County Plans $150 Million Budget

In smaller print below this: Property tax rate may hit 20-year low

Read down and you will find out the proposed budget is $6 million higher than this year.

Budget up, rates down. Makes perfect sense if they are trying to get democrats elected to the County Board. Economics is beyond media and democrats.

Of course lower rates don’t mean your taxes are going down. Somebody has to pay that extra $6 million, it will be property owners.

Your assessed values all increased, some by HUGE amounts. Duh, more money can easily be collected with lower rates. When the available pot of money to tax goes up the rate SHOULD go down.

Expect across the board higher property taxes because local governments believe they are entitled to your money. Keep voting for progressives. They are the ones raising your taxes.

Usually taxpayers catch a break in an election year. This year they no longer care.
