RC McBride – an obvious conflict of interest

By:  Diane Benjamin

This guy is the General Manager WGLT:   http://wglt.org/people/category/6

McBride is also on the Town of Normal Council:    http://www.normal.org/1135/Meet-the-Council
If you don’t already see a conflict of interest with media helping to run government, I’m not done.

Monday night the Normal Council is writing some checks to WGLT, an NPR station that isn’t supposed to sell advertising:

See page 9 (two entries), page 10 (three entries). and page 16.    http://www.normal.org/ArchiveCenter/ViewFile/Item/2973

Total paid: $8,475.00

First, how can a news station fairly report activities in the Town of Normal when the General Manager is on the Board of Trustees?  What does McBride make sure isn’t reported?  Does McBride make sure the other WGLT employees don’t report on Normal either?  He is the boss!

How can this news station fairly report when they are being paid by government and the General Manager is a part of that government?

The Pantagraph appears to mostly print what Bloomington tells them to print.  WGLT is even worse.

From the WGLT website:

How is RC McBride maintaining the highest standards of integrity, being transparent, and protecting the editorial process when he has obvious conflicts of interest?

  1. Its not a conflict of interest if you are held in such high regards by the other liberal press in the area and your as liberal as he is! I hear a fake news comment from his peers coming to shutdown the real news.

  2. We all know… it is very obvious….WGLT is the radio arm of the establishment’s PR machine. Whatever the issue, they are there to move the establishment’s narrative forward without question. The elites and the crony system here can always rely on them to do whatever it takes to push their agendas. If they were doing real journalism (like Diane is doing here) they would be feared not rewarded with taxpayer money.

  3. Again, if government/government-funded entities have to tell you how transparent they are, they aren’t. BTW, NPR needs to be defunded – sink or swim baby!

    1. Yes the “we are transparent” slight of hand trick is used all the time. Are you listening Tari? Information is power and they know it. They give us only what they have to and guard the rest, while telling us they are “completely transparent”. All the while, their PR machines, (WGLT and the Pantagraph) act as their parroting lapdogs to move whatever narrative or point of view forward into the mind’s of the populace.

  4. This is nothing new for the local swamp. When RC MCBRIDE was with WJBC he also was appointed by Mayor Koos to the Normal Planning Commission. Ethical standards in journalism suggest that reporters need to go out of their way to prevent the appearance of such conflicts of interest. Doesn’t this guy now yeah journalism at ISU? Scary thought.

    1. These people like (RC MCBRIDE) would not see a problem with the New York Times or the Washington Post giving articles to the Hillary Clinton campaign for editing and approval during the run up to the election (this actually happened). For the most part “true journalism” is dead in the mainstream media across the country. Corporate/mainstream journalists have become stenographers for their owners. The news has become what the establishment wants you to see and hear. Will WGLT ever do any reporting of what other cities have done to transport their poor and handicapped from place to place? No, but you can bet they will continue to do article or segment after segment in tacit or direct support of Transit Disconnect continuing to bankrupt the taxpayers of this area, right?

  5. WOW! Finally someone takes note! I Remember the days when WGLT was a bunch of stoned hippies in the top floor of Cook hall spinning records on a Sunday afternoon and just “having fun” Amazing WHAT a FEW folks who “decide” what is BEST for all us folks can do and at the SAME time make a “profit” under the guise of NPR!
I USED to like NPR for their good news, stories, reporting and interesting stories, etc.
BUT as of late ALL they want to do is ATTACK conservatives and BEAT on Trump. And just KEEP on that DEAD HORSE until the flies have even left! It’s just WAY too much,
It’s NOT fair news anymore but just bash, bash, bash and MORE bash. And when it happens to THEM it’s prejudicial!
WGLT is NOT worthy of the awards it wins and it’s news is NOT news. It’s so damn one sided it’s gut wrenching. AND IF you agree, PLEASE speak up here and MAYBE they will get back to REAL news! It’s SO bad that when they interview a Republican or a Trump person, THEY badger the poor person to death ON THE AIR! That’s NOT news that’s serious prejudice! WHICH they preach AGAINST but DO NOT PRACTICE!
    Conservatve lives matter!!!

  6. I appreciate the job done by WGLT reporter Ryan Denham; however, I could do without RC McBride on the Normal town council. From his time around/at ISU and at WJBC, McBride built up enough support to win election. I won’t be surprised if he runs again and wins election because he has an establishment of people behind him. Hopefully he will be more than countered with voices like Marc Tiritilli, as I hope he runs. I can’t see Koos winning again as people see things continue to get worse in local government.

  7. WGLT is the propaganda machine for the Brown Shirts in Bloomington Normal. Evidenced by the recent coverage attacking a detective for resigning as a volunteer position at the YWCA and then fully supporting and often condoning of Nazi behavior led by Tari Renner Kois. WGLT ALSO Promotes other violent and short sited groups like BLM and THE Coalition. Their work in pushing an anti Christian pro ACLU agenda has everything to do with RC McBride’s character and the liberal agenda he wants. It has nothing to do with honest unbiased news. I wouldn’t care, if I wasn’t being forced to pay for it. Apoarently the Illinois State University Ethics Office does not understand what an Ethics Violation is.

    1. They understand ethics violations but they are all in the same club and club members can do just about anything they want. In this case, RC McBride is a club elder, so he is way above reproach and far above us mere mortals. So show some respect to the god kings of the establishment here. They are our benevolent overlords and don’t need to be questioned about anything they do or say or propagandize for the benefit of the establishment here.

  8. You guys…are delusional. Seriously. It’s all right there in the open: how much was spent and for what. No slight of hand. I judge their coverage based on their coverage and it seems fact based and on the up and up to me. I’ll sit back and wait for Larry and Angie to attack me now. Waiting…

    1. Ask RC is he believes in separation of church and state. I’m sure he would jump at that one, but he doesn’t believe in separation of media and state? You know, the guys who are suppose to defend the republic by accurately reporting on government antics?

    2. Hey Mr. Rich – No we don’t wish cancer on anyone… not you not anyone… and you were very wrong to suggest that we would…. take your gaslighting somewhere else… Your opinion is not in any way respected or taken seriously by anyone on this or any the threads on this publication. Go away boy…The adults are in charge here….

      1. Oh, Larry. There you go again. You crack me up. Adults…who never step away from the keyboard long enough to actually DO SOMETHING to enact the change they so desire.

        1. Go away boy…. no one here wants to hear anything you say…. I am not reading anything you say… Just go away… no one respects anything you say…
