This banter illustrates the problem with government vs. taxpayer relations…the us vs. them mentality. Government employees believe citizens and the private sector exist as revenue sources. The private sector believes government’s top, and main, priority should be to to take care of necessary tasks which would not be undertaken otherwise.
Having worked in both, I can assure you the government sector teaches their staff that the public is not capable of knowing what is good for them and it is government’s job to figure out and do what they believe is best.
It is no shock that there is distrust and belittling of the general public by those who work for and/or rely on government (taxpayer) funding.
