Lahood & Durbin requests earmarks for Normal

By: Diane Benjamin

Earmarks were abolished for awhile by Republicans because they explode the budget. Evidently both parties no longer care about the debt your grandchildren and beyond will be paying off.

From Adam Andrzejewski of Open the Books:

“Earmarks are member pet projects doled out to legally bribe congressmen for their votes on large spending bills. (Just two weeks ago, 158 Republican members of the House, in a secret vote, voted to embrace earmarks.)”

It looks like all Illinois requests can be found by clicking on the Green $ sign by Springfield. There are a lot of them!

Lahood has 1 request for the Town of Normal:

Department of TransportationTown of NormalW. College Avenue Rehabilitation$3,500,000LaHood

Durbin has 1 too:

Department of TransportationTown of NormalNormal Northwest Economic Growth Area Infrastructure & Planning Study$520,000Durbin

Another Lahood:

Department of Health and Human ServicesIllinois State University, Mennonite College of Nursing, Normal, IL for facilities and equipmentIllinois State University, Mennonite College of Nursing, Normal, IL for facilities and equipment$2,000,000LaHood

Bloomington has ZERO.

Lahood and Durbin are impossible to defeat in an election. They buy too many votes with your money.

One more by Lahood:

Department of Housing and Urban DevelopmentVillage of DownsDowntown Streetscape Improvements Phase I$2,128,000LaHood

The Downs Downtown is a couple of blocks at best. Maybe they want to lay gold bricks on the main road through town. If you live in Downs you might want to pay attention.
