Unless government fears you they will continue to fleece you. Taxpayers are the bottom of their food chain. They don’t care what expenses you have or that you can’t afford groceries – their needs are superior to yours.
Below are a ton of comments that I redacted all identifying information for. People are getting their new assessed values and are expecting their taxes to go up again this year. If you believed Unit 5 when they said passing the referendum wouldn’t raise your taxes you will fall for anything!
Your taxes don’t have to go up just because your assessed value went up. Every unit of government on your property tax bill decides how much money they need and then the Assessor sets the property tax rate at whatever is needed for them to get that amount.
If all those units of government decide to do with less because YOU have less your taxes won’t go up! Of course that will never happen unless you show up at public meetings with a bunch of friends and neighbors and DEMAND it. Local elections for school boards and councils are next April. If they don’t fear your vote they won’t care. Don’t vote and the following year the clowns will raise property taxes then.
Social media doesn’t matter except to organize a resistance – stand up together and fight back! Taxing you on unrealized gains is EVIL because you may never see those gains and shouldn’t be forced to sell to pay taxes. Expect rents to increase again if property taxes increase.

how they fund their projects and line their and friends pockets…legalizing citizen data and $ grabs (not new but Illinois and Central Illinois leads the way)
Sick really- GIS and assessment process and system and Internet of Things architecture (Marxist) and highly backed by colleges and “alumni”
I heard a news fees bout an Illinois GOP pushing a change to reduce License fees $5.00 and pushing ESG systems/projects (both parties are political jokers at this point on our dime and time.
Fake leaders and politicians (or just dumb, neglectful or bought and paid for)

It would seem advantagious for someone to open a business that specifically did nothing but dispute real estate assessments. Collect the necessary data to do disputes and have at. I know I would be willing to pay for the professional service.
By the time you get the “post card” providing the surprise you don’t have a fair amount of time to dispute in my opinion. The whole game is meant to intimidate you into submission.
Then on top of that start demanding services due for taxes collected. For example for as long as I can remember when it rains a lot there is standing water on the county roadway at a curve. The McLean County Highway Dept. runs out here and puts up a sign after it rains. Instead of fixing the problem which is a public safety issue they do nothing! Maybe a threatening letter to get it before a judge for public safety concerns would light a fire under their rear end if at all possible. What we have is government collecting taxes with not much in return. No surprise there.
Start by looking up sales in your neighborhood, pretty easy to do. That’s the basis of a protest

Headline needs to be changed to :
“Mclean County Republicans Won’t Do Anything About Property Taxes”
If the 10 GOP members of the County Board vote NO , your property taxes will not go up. It is that simple.
If a property tax increase is really that important to you then you should flood the board with calls and in-person public comments at the next 2 board meetings.
Democrats will never vote No on a local tax increase.
Won’t matter after November. Democrats will own all tax increases
