Remember Carol Rofstad? Jennifer Lockmiller?

By: Diane Benjamin

ISU has two unsolved campus murders. Is anyone trying to solve Jennifer Lockmiller’s murder in 1993 after Alan Beaman was declared innocent? Crickets.

The Normal police haven’t solved the 49 year old murder of Carol Rofstad either.

Was this a jab at Normal police? https://www.25newsnow.com/video/2024/12/23/normal-police-rigorously-working-solve-49-year-old-cold-case-killing/

Last year CI Proud and News 25 did the same story after the podcast Carol’s Last Christmas was released: https://blnnews.com/2023/12/26/remember-carols-last-christmas/

Normal police are “rigorously” working to solve Carol’s murder?

If you listened to that podcast it featured a retired Chicago police detective. The Normal police refuse to release information to outside investigators. Why? 49 years isn’t long enough? The Rofstad family deserves better. Are the Normal police waiting for potential suspects to die before presenting evidence?

Maybe these news organizations can do a special 50 year anniversary story next year. If Normal police were serious about solving the case they would release information and allow outside help. 49 years failure is enough.

Do any of the 3 people running for mayor in Normal care their police department looks ridiculous after 49 years?

The Vidette published numerous stories years ago. Here’s two:

  1. Jennifer’s case will never get solved until police admit they got the wrong guy. They consider her case closed. As far as Carol Rofstad goes, ISU doesn’t want a black eye when it comes to crime on campus. I still believe Jelani Day’s case isn’t solved either. It is very frustrating to look at these cases and seeing how a life doesn’t matter over trying to save face. All these cases should have been solved. There is no excuse and it’s an absolute disgrace. Working with Nicole and Ally has been an honor trying to get justice for Carol and other’s whose lives were lost because of a lack of respect for life. Let’s see how long it takes for NPD to come forth with the DNA evidence for Carol’s case. They have had it long enough already. The main suspect is now dead and he was very good friends with the President of ISU at the time and friends with the prosecutor.

  2. I think BN should enlist the services of proven local sleuth Steve Vogel. He single-handily told everyone he figured out the Lockmiller case so he should have no problem with the remaining two even at his advancing age. He could start with the facts that Lockmiller, Beaman and Jelani were all potheads and likely knew area drug suppliers. Beaman had violent tendencies and only ripped the door off his girlfriend/former girlfriend hinges only once and continues to be a willing media hound decades after the dirty deed but just wants to live a private life and make a living suing everyone in sight. None of this should be hard for the know-it-alls in BN to figure out even though trails have gone cold. A Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year.

      1. Believe Alan? Absolutely! He conducted himself with such decorum at the trial and continues to do so to this day. If I wanted to be left alone and proclaim my innocence for eternity, the first thing I would do is appear on as many TV, radio and public forum shows as possible to.leave no doubt that I just wanted the matter to go away. The arsehole did himself zero favors acting like a total smart arse the entire trial. Add to that his cocky personna that he still possesses today, I would have ruled him out immediately. Typical IWU prickster of the day. If I would have been the judge, he would have been charged with contempt for every time he opened his smart mouth with appropriate jail time. He may have not personally done the act, but he knows damn well who did. It was a tight circle as I remember.

          1. Exactly! That’s how and who Alan was at the time. You want to see corrupt cases by police, watch Trial by Fire. He was convicted by a corrupt police department in TX, tried and convicted, and sentenced to death and then executed even tho it was proven he didn’t set his house on fire that killed his kids. Witnesses were bullied to change their testimonies. He was innocent. Rick Perry was the Governor at the time and told a bold face lie at the Presidential Debate that he never executed an innocent man.

            1. Should have realized the life and death situation he was in and acted accordingly instead of being an arse and maybe he wouldn’t have gotten convicted. Yeah right, just an immature 20 something spoiled brat know-it-all whose narcissistic behavior should have been excused. According to jurors interviewed afterward, his behavior inside the courtroom didn’t do him any favors during deliberations. I guess all of law enforcement in BN are corrupt and all the kids at IWU, ISU and Heartland are little angels. No wonder murderers get off in BN and the community is shitte.

              1. A lot of immaturity, verbally abusive language, and being a first class jerk doesn’t make one guilty, evidence does. Normal PD withheld evidence. He didn’t deserve to go to prison for a crime he didn’t commit. The guy that was executed in Trial by Fire was much like Alan and there is no excuse for sending an innocent man to prison just because you don’t like his personality or attitude. The real criminal got away, is that ok? Yes, I agree that his attitude and actions in court were inappropriate but that is not what was on trial and that is not a crime.

          2. Kid my butt. He was an arse during the entire proceeding. I remember the reports of his eye rolling, cocky attitude, smirking and backtalking he did in the courtroom that jurors reported on after the fact. He also couldnt keep his mouth shut to reporters after each proceeding. He was a typical wise guy college student that thought he was the smartest person in the room and it cost him. Never mind that he was verbally abusive and likely more during his relationship with Lockmiller. Sorry if I never have an once of sympathy for the narcissist. He was his own worst enemy.
