Another Year, Another Massive Multiplier increase

By: Diane Benjamin

All of the township multipliers will be posted here soon: https://mcleancountyil.gov/109/Filing-an-Assessment-Complaint

I hear Randolph Township has the highest annual property tax multiplier: 10.70

That does NOT mean your property taxes are going up. It means the people picked in local elections (that few people bother to vote for) will be deciding to raise them or keep them the same. It is doubtful anyone is going to reduce them.

They have Dollar Signs in their eyes when they see these assessment increases.

You can fight your assessment by finding similar properties nearby that sold for less.

Plan on attending school board meetings and all other meetings held by the taxing bodies on your bill. If any official claims they are keeping the rate the same, that means your taxes are going up because they are taxing higher values. If they pass a levy that is same as the previous year – your taxes aren’t going up.

Property taxes are now the highest in the country because people are too busy to hold government accountable.

If you missed this story, read it now: https://blnnews.com/2025/07/25/illinois-now-has-the-highest-property-taxes-in-the-country/

Illinois’ abuse of property owners is vile. Taxing unrealized gains because budgets are constructed to fund non essential government while failing to adequately fund the essential is tyranny. Vote better, if you are the few that bother to vote.

You will be getting your new assessment in the mail soon. Rents will continue to increase too. Blame government, not your landlord.

  1. I would vote better if I could smell a difference. Property taxes you mentioned plus lack of any fiduciary responsibility among the County Board and Bloomington City administration along with the nearly 200 McLean County parasitic taxing bodies in line to take their cut. And, the run-away increases in utilities and inflation on everything, it is little wonder that people can’t afford rent or to maintain their property and are now or soon will be in default of any financial liabilities they might have. New residential building will look like the unhoused encampment at Oakland and Main. Less than 2 years after his encampment opens it will look like the recent tent cities. Another good look for visitors coming into Bloomington.

  2. I looked up my 20 yar assessment, it has increased 400% in 20 years, with no improvements. We need elected representatives that control spending!

  3. There were about 3 or 4 different bills in Springfield that were left to die on April 11. All of them addressed property tax relief in one form or another. A couple had bi-partisan support. None were advanced to the floor for a vote by the majority party in Springfield. Think it is bad now? Just wait until JB gets re-elected next year. I have been wondering for over 10 years when the voters / citizens in Illinois and McLean County will wake up and demand constitutional changes in the property tax and public pension systems. One party RULES in Illinois!

    1. I am pretty sure the 1% sales tax wouldn’t have passed had it not been the student voters at ISU who gamed the vote to get it passed.

The voters don’t seem to wake up and open their eyes. I don’t get it. Partially I think it is due to being complacent and just not voting. 75% probably say so what and charge it on a credit card.

  4. The Democrat hypcrits Pritzker and Giannoulias are doing everything they can to slam those unaacountable insurers and put a stop to their rate increases. Meanwhile they turn a blind eye to rising property taxes by the taxing bodies. I am almost sure insurers are way more accountable than our taxing bodies and property tax assessors are being. Not to worry JB and Alexi have got you covered and are fighting for you to raise your cost of living.

I sure gave WGLT an ear full soliciting comments about rising electric rates and how it impacts you on their comment form the other day. I reminded them the Democrats are the cause of that and the Democrat infested school boards and staff are the cause of rising property taxes. I doubt they will call for an interview from me.

I had brief talk with a realtor (Jerry Pinkas Real Estate Experts) from S.C. about senior housing in the area this morning. I caught their Youtube video yesterday show casing new 1 bedroom 1 car garage homes in about the $220K price range.

  5. In other news, nine Illinois cities have made the list of the filthiest in America. Bloomington was ranked number 236, worst even than Peoria. Congratulations BN. A job well done.
