I believe the State of Illinois is behind raising local assessed values. In their brilliance they thought McLean County properties were undervalued.

When you see numbers like 1.0918 it means your assessed value is going up 9.18%.

I explained in this story how property taxes don’t need to increase but probably will: https://blnnews.com/2025/08/01/another-year-another-massive-multiplier-increase/

Every unit of government will be passing their “levy” this fall. That is the amount of money they want to collect in property taxes. Every year most want more money because they think homeowners keep getting richer. Proclaiming your home is worth more and taxing more when you aren’t selling is evil.

That is no different than taxing your 401K when you take ZERO money out of it.

You won’t get a refund if property values fall like they did in 2008.

Illinois has the highest property taxes in the entire country: https://blnnews.com/2025/07/25/illinois-now-has-the-highest-property-taxes-in-the-country/

That will continue as long as progressives are running government. They have no limits to what they “need” from you. Pay up serf.

If you hear any local government official claim “the rate” is staying the same. You are being conned into believing that person didn’t raise your property taxes. The same rate on a higher amount is an increase.

  1. The other con they use is to make a list of other communities with higher rates, multipliers, increase percentages, or whatever, and say, “Look over there. We’re not as bad as they are so see what good stewards of your money we are?” And the various taxing bodies repeat the claim over and over as they “sell” it to the public. It’s BS and the sheeple fall for it every time. But you get what vote (or don’t vote) for.
