UPDATED: Evans Junior High justice?

See this 2022 story about the same school: https://blnnews.com/2022/11/23/evans-junior-high-6th-graders-indoctrination/

By: Diane Benjamin

The below was sent to me by a parent who received it. It came from Evan Junior High and not signed by the sender. The return email address is generic.

The bottom line is: 6th grade students are being punished because of the actions of probably a few. Making innocent students eat “silent lunch” alongside the troublemakers teaches what? Everyone is considered guilty by whoever wrote this and made this policy?

Evidently it is too difficult to discipline students who need it, so punish all instead. Was every 6th grader throwing food? Leaving wrappers and trash? Why is every student subjected to Unit 5 justice deemed guilty?

“We believe in holding students accountable while helping them grow . . . “

I assume “innocent until proven guilty” isn’t taught. Authoritarian justice is.

  1. They were doing that when I was in school. One kid misbehaves and the whole class got punished

  2. As I stated, the children are suffering because adults can’t settle their differences. The teachers in Unit 5 have no control over their lunchroom? So the kids don’t understand verbal commands yet gender ideology is so important to make them understand. Fire all of the teachers. All of them. Clean house and then clean the lunchroom. You people have been teaching trash for years and wonder why it’s all over the floor.

    1. I wouldn’t want to be a teacher today. “Restorative Justice” according to the ISBE says if you have a disproportionate number of nonwhite students getting disciplined or too many students getting expelled – it’s your fault.

So on the one hand kids are going berserk and on the other the admin says watch out who and how much you discipline.

  3. I agree with Johanna.

In addition, consider volunteering for lunch duty at this school and/or other schools to help with individual discipline during Iunchtime. I am sure any school would appreciate the help. I have noticed several schools with openings for lunchtime supervisors.

  4. Soft on crime starts right there! When I was in school the principal had a paddle with 1″ holes drilled in it. A couple of smacks on your arse went a long way toward behavior modification. Who ever came up with the stupid notion that corporal punishment does work obviously never had an encounter with that paddle.

  5. If the 6th graders treat their teachers with such disrespect already, imaging how the 8th graders, the 11th graders will treat their teachers, their peers, your child, your grandchildren, etc. Do yourself and your student a favor, and just pull your kids NOW from the government schools. There is a reason these buildings have the exterior design of a prison (ugly brick boxes, few windows), why they are passing tax hikes after tax hikes so they can put cops and mental health counselors into these schools, instead of teaching the kids to read (unit 5 is 40% reading proficiency, district 87 is 22%). Metal detectors are next, if they aren’t already being used.

    1. They’ll never put metal detectors U5 or D87. That would discriminate against the kids who need to bring guns and knives to school for protection. Does that sound crazy? Yes. But that’s their reason.

  6. Instead of punishing the usual troublemakers, they punish everyone. Why? Because if they only punished the troublemakers, it would hurt the feelings of the troublemakers. This is more of the insanity in public schools. It’s the same reason they’ve gradually reduced academic excellence over the years. They want everyone equally illiterate. And if your kid manages to make it through public school actually able to read, spell, write, do math, it’s not because of anything the school did. They don’t want to hurt the feelings of the low/no achievers so your kid has to be equally stupid.

  7. I think a big part of the problem is blue Illinois. My grandson has moved to a red state close by. To a town of 8000 people. Way different atmosphere and respect. More like it was here 50 years ago.
And just how much punishment is a “silent lunch”? What a joke. I mean really …. it even sounds silly and wimpy. What is being taught is there are no serious consequences for bad behavior. That’s the take away from this, not that all are punished for the actions of a few.

    1. One other thing about the town my grandson moved to…..something that shouldn’t, but does, affect respect and behavior ….. something that one can’t say nowadays ….. the town is over 98% Caucasian.

        1. Diane I don’t know the number but I would guess it’s very high by today’s standards. I realize that’s the most important thing of all……A father that stays and a woman that doesn’t have six kids by five different men.

  8. If you have not done so, watch the body cam videos of people getting arrested for a number of escalations at a routine traffic stop. The driver starts debating the purpose of the stop in LOUD, profanity filled screaming. And it continues until they are arrested and put in cuffs, and hauled off to jail. What was a misdemeanor traffic ticket, take it, and drive away, ends in arrest and a trip to jail. Its first unbelievable how ignorant the average driver is regarding traffic laws, and what the law requires you to do when you are asked to show license, proof of insurance, and registration. Its no wonder these students act like this.

  9. One thing that my parents taught me and I put emphasis on parents if you are stopped for any reason by the police the one thing coming out of your mouth is yes sir and no sir and you be extremely polite. My wife and I taught our children the same thing how sad that so many children and yes grown ups can’t respect authority using the excuse that all police are bad!
    How sad

  10. This sounds like a school leadership problem, with a select group of students and the lazy form of punishment was chosen.

    1. Walnut trees……good luck with that so long as there’s a socialist/communist teachers union coupled with insane Illinois racial racist mandates. BOTH need to go!!!

  11. What needs to be done is so simple. VOTE! Get out the vote. Forget about being politically correct and get political. Talk about politics! Talk about those kings who wish to rule you. You’ll see many are in your same boat. And those that aren’t,,,just move on. RUN for office. If we let the tyrants get elected, there will be tyranny. DONATE resources to those that might run. They’ll need some cash but mostly a bunch of good volunteers to help them along the way. Campaign, form and stay consitent with good policy. OTHERWISE we can type til our fingers bleed down to stubs and just be stuck with rinse and repeat. Thanks to BLN News in keeping us informed so we can get our acts together and win this thing.
