Are Normal’s Spending Priorities Hurting Emergency Services

By: Diane Benjamin

Electing progressives for decades in Normal means spending is thrown at wants, like the vanity underpass, while spending on essential services isn’t sufficient. How many EMS calls does Bloomington have to cover because Normal expanded service without adding personnel? https://blnnews.com/2025/12/11/where-does-normals-ems-revenue-go/

Does someone in Normal have to die because the facts as laid out in the document below are ignored? This was distributed at an Ironwood HOA meeting.

  1. The problem is, while basic services like roads and public safety need more funding, the already allocated funding for vanity projects is never going away(imagine government cutting non essential services and discretionary spending, ha!). This means more tax hikes. On top of already existing 40% hikes in property taxes, new sale taxes, higher fees, etc.

  2. But, just think if someone is hurt north or south of the tracks at downtown circle the responders won’t be delayed at the tracks because of a train they can just jump on their bikes and ride through the tunnel! Makes a person feel safe and comfy doesn’t it?

  3. If my memory serves me, Ironwood is one way in, one way out meaning logistically everything is going to take more time. Still, the Town of Normal city administration just doesn’t really care.

  4. But the “Underpass” will allow the mayors buddies to add to the “uptown” and build on to Normals gem of real estate.

It’s all a scam. Normal town council members were gonna get this one way or another, even if we had to foot the entire project without any grant dollars.

“Checks” in the mail, passage of law is literally illegal. But they don’t care.
