This is Awkward

By: Diane Benjamin

If you don’t know who Rachael Lund is, this will refresh your memory: https://blnnews.com/2020/10/30/who-is-the-real-rachael-lund/

After Lund failed to win her County Board election, Chris Koos appointed her to the Planning Commission. That speaks volumes about Koos, of course the Council has been told their only role is to approve anyone Koos picks, so they were silent. The public doesn’t know who Koos appoints until after the Council rubberstamps the pick.

Lund is the vice-chair of the Planning Commission: https://www.normalil.gov/401/Planning-Commission

That would be the same Planning Commission that will be hearing testimony on August 4th pertaining to Normal’s proposed changes to the local sign ordinance, including political signs.

This is where it gets awkward (as if her appointment wasn’t enough):

JB picking Rachael Lund speaks volumes about him, maybe he couldn’t find a non-squad supporter since his approval rating keeps dropping.

So, Lund is part of a political campaign and a leader on the Planning Commission chosen to regulate political signs. I’m pretty sure she won’t see a conflict of interest.

Supposedly any new sign ordinance won’t go into effect until after the November election. That would make it just in time for local elections. I wonder if “after the election” will change when the Ward question makes the ballot!

    1. It’s standard operating procedure in BN period. Doesn’t matter what political party. Politics, jobs, getting into a college where you don’t meet the qualifications, music or entertainment gigs, athletics in junior high or high school and on and on. The ruling Clique runs all and to hell with everything and anyone else. The end.

  1. The planning commission will pass whatever Koos tells them to. The Mayor, most of the council, Town attorney, and Town manager are all outspoken Pritzker loyalists. They will move up the enforcement date or this is all setting the groundwork for Pritzker’s presidential election. Democrats plan for the long game.

  2. This is how Dems keep winning and will hold a lock on state government for like forever.
Dems build a bench – employ and empower and appoint their own to positions that provide upward mobility within government.
IL Republicans don’t hire this way – they would rather just let HR choose for them or worse – fill positions by (inflated) application ! Il GOP’ers just don’t relate or care what motivates their political boots on the ground.

IL Republicans never seem to understand why they can’t win at the state level – and when they do get lucky and win – they can’t govern.
    -or-
they are happy being the disgruntled / controlled political minority as at least they got their bite of the cake.

    1. As Diane has already stated, Dems run the IL GOP (and some others too) I will say again my assessment of the whole thing – the IL GOP and the other RINOS in other ststes, especially “blue” states have NO problem playing the part of the Washington Generals to the Dem’s Harlem Globetrotters – they show up, put on a show like they are TRYING to win, but it’s already decided that the Globetrotters always win, the Generals get paid and they are happy to hang around with the Globetrotters and then it’s off to another show after they’ve hung out, partied and laughed together in between games/shows/elections the entire time. To use a Malcolm X line only in a different context – “These old guard country club Republicans are NOT your friends”

  3. The McLean Co. Republicans are too distracted by Donald Trump and federal issues to realize they are loosing the County and with it their local relevance. In 5 years there will be no local Republican Party if they keep ignoring what is going on locally even if the presidency goes to a Republican.

The GOP’s refusal to stay out of non-partisan races while Democrats have been all-in shows they don’t have a clue.

    1. Trump has nothing to do with what happens or doesn’t happen in local politics. The problem with local the local Republuxan organizations is they are made up of RINOS and always have been and were wsy before Trump ran for anything. Go to a local Chamber event at Rob Dobs and you would immediately see the problem. All are more worried about their local social status and are too morally compromised to stand up for anything they believe in. They are too worried that not playing nice with the local.opposition who hates them will damage their status at the country club. BN deserves its ultimate fate. A community of fakes and takers.

  4. The Mayor is using our taxpayer funded Town Staff to keep his favorite political party, Democrat, in power. This is so corrupt, or should I say “this is so Illinois”

  5. And the Chicago crooks have a hand in stealing elections in the bigger downstate areas. Anyone who thinks different is only fooling themselves.
