The University of Illinois is conducting this survey via public schools. Below are the McLean County schools participating, others may still sign up:

Your child’s school isn’t going to ask for permission to survey anyone. A parental opt-out form is available here: https://iys.cprd.illinois.edu/conducting/opt-out/

The three problems I see, other than some questions are invasive, are:

  1. The results will only be sent to the principal
  2. The survey will take an entire class period which means the purpose of this survey is not listed on the website. What is listed shouldn’t take 45+ minutes to complete. (substance abuse)
  3. Schools aren’t charged to participate. Who is benefiting from the data collected?

Since test scores are dismal in many of these schools, why are they wasting an entire class period?

If you don’t opt out, tell your kids they can skip any questions they don’t want to answer. Supposedly nothing in this “on-line only test” can be used to identify your child. Sure.

  1. Emailed Board President (Ridgeview and Admin)

Clear exploit and deceptive use of data calling it “data analysis” and the kids/students are an easy “target” to grab.

Wonder who all is making $$ of this “research”

U of I is notorious for breaches and exploitive use and sharing of private data.

      1. Kids are the captive “test rats” for “innovation”

Its pathetic – LeRoy does not surprise me – Human Factors freaks all in partnership.

It is not just “Boomers” that have concerns.

  2. I watched the video and it clearly states that the schools must provide 2 forms of notification to parents, one being the opt-out form. It also states that the reason it needs to be during one class is because the survey can’t be stopped and started due to the anonymous nature of the survey. If the schools are doing this properly, and I know that may be a big if, why not. There may be some kids in these schools that are not comfortable talking to someone in person about being bullied or that they are facing issues at home, etc. I don’t like that the results are only being shared with the principal, but all the kids/parents have the opportunity to opt out. I tend to agree with you most of the time Diane, I am on the fence on this one.

  3. Hey kids! When participating in one of these surveys do the following and stop in for a free slice of monster pizza after filling out the survey as follows. At the first question, write as your answer: “You should be teaching us reading, writing and arithmetic instead of wasting our time trying to manipulate us with crummy surveys. Thank you, I have nothing else to say.” Take a picture of your answer to show it to us, and stop by the Old Stanky Pizzeria to get that free slice of monster pizza and hang out with your friends.

    1. I like this idea! I’ll gladly chip in if anyone can work out the logistics for a serious plan along these lines.

  4. They can see by the group that took, IP and device who submitted it the survey and answered what when. Don’t be deceived by the Principal “only” answer when they don’t even disclosed who and what and where is storing and compiling the data. This is all very shady and deceptive in many ways.

  5. U of I, Deloitte/Accenture (with State Farm) and “stakeholders” have been implementing QR Codes, RFDI tracking/Internet of Things and “data surveys” for so called public safety and research for some time.

Now, clearly U of I is using Unit 5 (and probably others state wide) with partner and promote the new innovated way of tracking and using survey data to implement the Human Factors/Predictable behavior model and using students, the data and tracking methods to make Illionis and the world better by studying the captive students.

These types of tests may have been given before but the backend reporting and data storing and sharing and use is different (targeted and used different)

Keep in mind that, the “Data Analysis” wing opened and they need test rates and cases and research to justify and expand and make it worth while.

The push and implementation of RFID in local corporations, areas and businesses (like HyVee) and State Farm is the big public safety and “emergency” and safety architecture.

RealID state wide puts the nail in the coffin.

Your students are test cases to be “tracked and studied” and nothing more. Tableau and Python reports will be generated from a new “data lake” which truly is another exploitive issue.

The questions will be more to build creepy algorithims, reports, use public school administrators to target data or store/broker share it nationally.

This is not education. The data entry and survey process will indeed make sure your child is in the system.

Welcome to Communist China where you all are tracked and scored and U of I can analyze your kid for life.

All so cool and innovative- right?
