They won’t be getting tips.
California raised minimum wage to $20 an hour for fast food workers. Below are articles detailing the results: (hint: higher prices, layoffs, automation)

Economics 101 should be required in high school. Raising the minimum wage hurts more people than helps.
Next a real course in capitalism should be required for graduation. Use the Vietnam example detailed in this story: https://reason.com/2024/03/26/how-capitalism-beat-communism-in-vietnam/
No surprise that people were starving under communism and now aren’t.
My son and his wife went on their honeymoon in Vietnam. Since I lived through the Vietnam war I was skeptical at best. They loved it and would return in the future. They found the people happily charting their own future through entrepreneurial activities.
Send that story to the socialists and communists who run for local office or show up to speak at council meetings. They have been indoctrinated to believe government needs to take care of people using other people’s money. It always fails. If they read a little they would know that.

This is messed up.
More government meddling in the labor market in an effort to correct their ignorance.
Those jobs were never meant to be career jobs.
If the government had slapped tarrif’s on imported goods when manufacturers started offshoring as well as putting a stop to offshoring other jobs there would be an incentive to move to a higher paying job or else continue earning a low wage. The federal government sat back and let this all happen. So now the fix is to turn low wage jobs into a living wage job becasue of the governments ignorance.
California restuarant owners I read the other day are letting employee go. Rightfully so!
No government should be setting a minimum wage. Wages should be driven by the labor market.
Why do you supppose Social Security is under water? Fewer people paying into the system. Even with a minimum wage increase it will never suffice to make up for higher paying manufacturing jobs and other lost jobs.
On target Marc!
Illinois is slowly becoming California and that’s NOT A GOOD THING! It’s a race to see which state can ruin itself the fastest. And no matter which state wins the taxpayers lose!
