Unit 5: How many teachers are playing politics?

By: Diane Benjamin

I had hoped at least one parent would have shown up at the Unit 5 School Board meeting last night to talk about the issue below. One parent did speak about fights at football games, but no one spoke on this issue.

You can see her comment at 35:10. She was followed by a union representative for the bus drivers. If you listen to what he had to say a strike is possible because First Student is not having good faith negotiations.

I was told a teacher at Normal West asked the class who they support for president. If they said Trump the students were bullied by this teacher.

This class had nothing to do with politics or government. Good teachers never reveal their political leanings. Obviously this teacher is not one of them.

I do know what class was being taught but I’m not saying. Parents need to ask their kids if this has happened to them, I doubt there is only one teacher like this. Are grades affected because a student doesn’t line up behind the teacher’s ideology?

Your kids have right to an education without enduring indoctrination. At least 1 Unit 5 teacher isn’t educating. If parents don’t stand up to bullies nobody will.

  1. over the years , and to this day , the Unit 5 school system turns out some of the best fast food workers in our community. Some Unit 5 students even go on to work in the fast casual industry in large metropolitan areas. #Unit5pride

  2. The question should be how many don’t play politics. That would be easier to answer. So pathetic, unit 5 used to be a great place to educate the children.
