Know why Corey said “tax rates” instead of “taxes”?

Because he voted to raise your property taxes last year!

Let’s look at part of a property tax bill in his district:

Paid in 2026:

Paid in 2025:

Hey Corey: The McLean County rate went down. So did your employer’s – Unit 5! City of Bloomington’s where your wife is alderman, Abby Scott, increased the rate leading to more money than they expected in reserves. (Of course the are spending it, no refunds)

Two rates went down while taxes went up.

Just these 3 lines on a tax bill for 2026 totalled $7,158.35.

In 2025 they totalled $6,867.92.

Total increase with the Beirne family in charge or benefiting:

$290.43 – in just one year.

Remember Unit 5 saying pass the 1% Sales Tax and we will lower your property taxes?

Corey Beirne is promising to lower your “rate”. Obviously the “rate” is immaterial when the Assessed Value keeps increasing.

For 2025 the Net Taxable Value of this house was $100,192.

For 2026 the Net Taxable Value of this house was $108,239.

Total tax bill in 2025: $8,090.42

Total tax bill in 2026: $8,422.76

Corey Beirne knows he is misleading voters.

This is his house.

Voters can’t afford the Power Couples, they all voted to raise property taxes:

  1. The City of Bloomington’s tax rate actually increased from 2025 (.904080) to 2026 (.961620). That’s because his wife Abby, whose campaign platform included property tax relief, voted to increase property taxes 14%. The tax rate increased because that increase was a lot more than the increase in market value of properties.

  2. I was following that too last year. Every single republican member of the county voted for it too. Every one. Shaking my head.

      1. corey is campaigning on the lie he “lowered property taxes”, he said that at the chamber of commerce fundraiser last week.

Fortunately, numbers do not lie. The Mclean County Board voted unanimously to increase property taxes by over $750,000 for this year. They have raised property taxes 36% since 2019 by raising the tax levy each year.

The lies about the “tax rate” are insane and dumb voters fall for it. IT IS ALL ABOUT THE TOTAL LEVY AMOUNT.

“McLean County experienced an average increase of 7.5% to its equalized assessed value — the total taxable value of property in the county — this year. However, the county’s $50,075,698 levy request for taxes payable in 2026 represents only a 1.5% increase over last year.

  3. On Beirne-Scott’s other Facebook page, he wrote a long post about walking through District 10, campaigning for re-election, and meeting people along the way. His descriptions are telling: “a diverse spectrum of political ideology; some moderate and hardcore progressives, but lots of hardcore MAGA folks.”
That is how he sees his constituency: progressives on one side, scary MAGA folks on the other. Not fellow citizens of McLean County. Not taxpayers. Not neighbors. Just people to be sorted, labeled, and judged through national politics.

In the past, when Beirne-Scott has used the word MAGA, he has paired it with words like “bigot,” “chunderhead,” and “conspiracy theorist.” He calls them unintelligent. (I have the receipts.)

The point here: in this post, he singles out people who believe in “MAGA ideology” and says, “That’s OK, MAGA deserves smooth roads and access to healthcare too.”
Even the chunderheads and bigots should get smooth roads? How generous. You’ve got the chunderhead’s vote, Beirne-Scott.

Here is how Corey describes his “takeaway” from a local campaign walk: “it’s yet another example of the MAGA stranglehold becoming increasingly marginalized. It’s falling apart from within but it’s still there and still a factor. The good news is that people are realizing that you can’t get by on outrage and violent threats.”

That is the problem. Corey Beirne-Scott cannot separate local service from national political warfare.
So what exactly are your political aspirations, Beirne-Scott? To break the “stranglehold” of MAGA, or to serve the people of McLean County? Because from here, it looks like your hatred of MAGA is not a side issue. It looks like the mission. And McLean County deserves local leaders who see residents as people first—not political enemies to be managed.

    1. Years ago, there was an organized effort to change the political landscape in McLean County by Democrat affiliated insiders both locally and in Chicago. Richard Durbin’s office was also involved. They worked with locals to bring in outsider radical activists who would infiltrate local government and the education community. Just think for a while names of people you never heard of who have run and won local office, teach your children or magically got influential jobs in local government. It was and has been planned to turn the entire county radical. Long standing organized labor leadership was also involved. It is why BN was also promoted as a safe place for the LBGTQ community where that ilk has taken over positions and jobs of local influence. None of this has been by accident. For all these people, liberal and radical politics is their God.

  4. He also voted in favor of raising the financial compensation of the County Board members. The vote narrowly failed.

  5. Read this article, and lets play a game:

    https://www.wglt.org/local-news/2023-11-17/mclean-county-board-oks-nearly-147m-budget-46m-levy-and-flat-tax-rate

Lie: Corey Beirne lowered property taxes.

Truth: in 2023, his first year on the board, Corey Beirne, with all the other county board democrats, voted to increase the property tax levy by 13%, raising the levy from $40.6 million to $46 million. He’s literally center right in the photo from the above article.
Then, in 2024, Corey Beirne, with all the other county board democrats, voted to increase the property tax levy again, this time from $40.6 to $46 million, a tax hike of 7%.
Then, in 2025, Corey Beirne, with all the other county board democrats, voted to increase property tax levy again from $49 million to $50 million, a 2% increase.
The hard truth is Corey Beirne has voted to increase your property taxes by 22% over just 3 years.

Lie: Corey Beirne is making housing more affordable.

Truth: Corey sat at that 2023 board meeting and listened to 5 people argue against the tax levy hike specifically because it would make housing more unaffordable, AND COREY VOTED YES ANYWAYS WITH ALL THE DEMOCRATS! “Five people spoke against the levy and flat rate during public comments, urging the board to lower the tax rate to offset the higher taxes that often result from increased EAVs. Some shared concerns the upward climb of taxes would make people unable to afford their own homes.”

Corey made housing 22% more unaffordable in McLean county, by voting to raise property taxes each and every single year he possibly could.

What do you think Mr. Tax and Spend is going to do this november, on his 4th property tax levy vote? Oh, it will happen after the November 3rd election? How convenient for Corey. If past results are the best predictor of the future, do you think Corey will raise property taxes or lower them, thereby making housing more or less unaffordable?

    Take a wild guess.

  6. Lots of talk here. So do something more with it. Form yourselves a group and send out some campaign mailers. Not just during campaign season but occassionally to plant the seeds of true information in the minds of those recipients. More or less a report card of their work compared to their promises. Send these mailers to the demographic that voted for them. Defeat them with their own words but you must find a way to reach them.

    1. 100%. This information is good, but there are people it won’t reach due to being on this blog. We need a litany mailers, infographics and clear social media posts blasting this message to voters.

  7. I have to pay to send my daughter to a different kindergarten program because of him. So there’s that.

  8. At the rate of assessed values are going up and one has to wonder why and taxing body rate increases I figure in 10 years the taxes on my home property will be over $10K. Nope it isn’t worth staying in IL for nothing.

I suspect the $1B Powerball IL winner is scrambling to move to a lower tax state rather than collecting it in IL. It would make sense to me to do that. J.B. and the Democrats would waste any taxes collected. That’s isn’t a guess, it is a fact.

Can anyone tell me why the Bloomington airport needs a Democrat’s $1.25M boarding bridge.

  9. Defeating Beirne is very important but the bigger picture is to defeat the socialism driven to pure communist takeover that is happening before our very eyes. Who among the frequent commenters here are ready to go into “their” stronghold neighborhoods to spread the word? Those people are who you need to connect to, to get them the information of how those that they are supportig are screwing them. Communism preys on ignorance, dividing to conquer. Throw their same playbook back in their faces cause it works. Use mailers to get that information to them. They can’t stop the mail,,,yet. * Yeah it costs money. You can start a tax exempt but everyoe knows your name, and brace for attacks, or just go gorilla. Remain anonymous. Let them wonder. Let it take their precious time trying to figure out who, where to attack. * Time to out think these people. Educate “their” people and watch them lose to the truth. DIvide and conquer.

  10. The answer is yes. As long as he is on the County Board, I would venture the answer every year will be yes.

Don’t forget, it’s not just property taxes going up from the Beirne-Scott family. It’s sales taxes, its utility costs, and other taxes/fees.
