Tuesday Chris Koos had to run to his favorite taxpayer funded media – WGLT – to complain about Stan Nord. The issue: Stan won’t rubber stamp my appointees! https://www.wglt.org/normal-mayor-pushes-back-appointment-opposition
The article eventually got to Karyn Smith who also spoke about not having time to research who Koos’ Connect Transit Board appointee is.
The Municipal Code uses this language for mayoral appointees, note it doesn’t say “vote yes because the mayor is always right”: PDF page 8 http://normal.org/DocumentCenter/View/7704/Chapter-10—Boards-and-Commissions?bidId=
The documentation for appointments from Monday night: PDF page 144 http://normal.org/ArchiveCenter/ViewFile/Item/3683
Does “recommending” mean nobody can ask questions? Koos is entitled to absolute authority and can’t be questioned? Obey bobble-heads?
What is the point of voting Chris? Why don’t you just change the Code so only you are responsible for appointments – without “consent”?
That solution would allow citizens to know who to blame. Connect Transit’s failure to serve the people who are forced to ride the bus because of their economic or physical circumstances would be completely YOUR fault. Dropping vets 100 yards away from the VA door would also totally be your fault since the huge buses can’t enter parking lots. Same goes for people with hospital or doctors appointments. It would be completely your fault granny can’t easily get to a door!
Contrast Chris Koos’ authoritarian government with Bloomington. Tari Renner wanted to appoint Justin Boyd to the Connect Transit Board. Citizens to Ensure Fair Transit opposed his appointment, he withdrew his name: https://www.wjbc.com/2019/06/06/connect-transit-board-nominee-asked-to-step-down/
Citizens in Normal, until Monday night, had no advance notice of who is being appointed. Monday they had 5 minutes. Citizens to Ensure Fair Transit had zero notice.
Koos’ appointment to the Amtrak Board has to be approved by the Senate, “advice and consent”: https://www.enotrans.org/article/white-house-to-nominate-two-democratic-members-to-amtrak-board/
I bet Koos would be posting on Facebook Trump is a tyrant if he expected the Senate to act like bobble-heads approving his appointees.
